A 33-year-old Texarkana woman’s combative behavior toward a bus driver and state trooper landed her in the county jail on a misdemeanor charge early Sunday morning. Officers were dispatched to a West Shannon Road truck stop to a disturbance and possible fight around 11:30 p.m. June 8. Witnesses claimed she attacked the driver of a Greyhound bus she was riding on and was restrained by other passengers., police noted in arrest reports. A trooper arrived first on scene. The woman allegedly approached the trooper in an aggressive manner and attempted to grab his gun to use on the bus driver. The trooper restrained the woman and took her into custody. Police took her to jail for disorderly conduct, according to arrest reports. She was released from the county jail later Sunday, according to jail reports.
A 20-year-old man added to his troubles by running when police tried to arrest him on warrants Tuesday.
Todrick Zyquince Cork was reportedly first contacted at Pacific Park at 12:13 p.m. June 11 regarding a wanted person. He allegedly initially gave officers a false name, but then provided his correct information.
A records check showed him to be wanted on a Lamar County evading arrest or detention with a vehicle charge and on Paris unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of marijuana charges. As the officer attempted to place him into custody, he fled on foot, Sulphur Springs Police Officer Adrian Pruitt alleged in arrest reports.
The officer reportedly chased after the man, who failed several times to comply with his orders for him to stop. As the officer gained ground, the man stopped, got on the ground on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at W.A. Street, and was arrested on all three warrants as well as evading arrest or detention, the officer alleged in arrest reports.
Cork remained in Hopkins County jail Wednesday afternoon. His bond was set at $10,000 on the evading arrest with a vehicle charge, and $2,000 each on the three other charges, according to jail reports.
Two Sulphur Springs men were taken into custody at the adult probation office Tuesday on warrants. A woman was also allegedly found intoxicated at the adult probation office.
Jonathan Wayne Smith
Jonathan Wayne Smith, 22, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at 3:56 p.m. Tuesday at the adult probation office on three warrants for controlled substance offenses and one for violating probation, according to arrest reports.
The Special Crimes Unit officer reportedly obtained three warrants following an investigation into the purchase, selling and possession of narcotics from and by Smith.
Aware of the charges, Sulphur Springs Police Officer Adrian Pruitt and SCU Sgt. Joe Scott took Smith into custody on the warrants at the adult probation office Tuesday afternoon, they noted in arrest reports.
Smith remained in jail at Hopkins County Law Enforcement Center Wednesday afternoon. He bond was set at $40,000 on the possession of 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance in a drug-free zone charge, $50,000 manufacture or delivery of 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance in a drug-free zone and $40,0000 on the manufacture or delivery of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance in a drug-free zone. No bond was set for violation of probation, which he was on for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, according to jail reports.
Gerardo Arellano
Gerardo Arellano, 20, of Sulphur Springs was taken into custody by Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Shing and Sgt. Kelly Wiser at 8:47 a.m. Tuesday for violation of probation, which he was on for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Arellano, identified in arrest reports by the last name Arellano-Saldana, remained in jail at Hopkins County Law Enforcement Center Wednesday afternoon on the violation of probation charge, according to jail reports.
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Jameison Hawkins also reportedly responded to a report of a person on some form of intoxicant at adult probation office. The 46-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was determined to be intoxicated to the degree she could harm herself or others, resulting in her arrest on the misdemeanor charge of public intoxication, Hawkins alleged in the report. She was released from the county jail Wednesday, according to jail reports.
A physical confrontation between two men sitting beside one another on a Greyhound bus early Thursday morning reportedly resulted in a 25-year-old Earlysville, Virginia man’s arrest for assault causing bodily injury.
Cumby police were dispatched at 1:48 a.m. Thursday to a complaint of an active physical fight between two individuals on a Greyhound bus parked at the rest stop on Interstate 30 east.
A 31-year-old mam claimed the Virginia man had assaulted him while on the bus, where the pair had reportedly been sitting next to each other. The Virginia man allegedly punched the other man multiple times in the head, neck and the left shoulder. The 31-year-old bus rider had visible injuries,” Cumby Police Sgt. Ray Embro alleged in arrest reports. The Virginia man allegedly told Embro the man sitting beside of him “was fondling his private area and punched him,” Embro noted in arrest reports.
Witnesses, however, claimed the 31-year-old was on the phone. The 25-year-old beside him appeared to suddenly wake up, then aggressively attacked the other man. The witnesses claimed the victim did not fight back and didn’t do anything wrong. One witness reportedly attempted to intercede, according to police reports.
Embro took the Virginia man to jail on a Class B misdemeanor assault charge. He remained in the county jail Friday morning, June 14, according to jail reports.
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Officer Brandon Murphy arrested Issac Grant, 33, of Terrell was arrested at 5:11 p.m. Thursday, June 13, on Interstate 30 east at mile marker 125 by for violation of parole.
He was reportedly a passenger in a Mercedes-Benz stopped for a traffic violation. A records check showed the Louisiana warrant, resulting in Grant’s arrest, Murphy alleged in arrest reports.
Cumby Police Officer Kenneth Jones arrested Cory Lane Belz, 34, of Brashear, TX for possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.
Jones reported seeing a Chevrolet pickup change lanes without signaling along Interstate 30, so he began to pursue it. The car took the 110 exit and continued half a mile before stopping at a trailer rental business. Jones, in arrest reports, claimed he could see the driver reached his hand to the back of the seat as the car stopped.
The driver, identified in arrest reports as Belz, allegedly denied having insurance or a driver’s license. Two glass pipes and an alcohol bag containing a baggy of suspected methamphetamine were found behind the driver’s seat.
The driver was arrested for possession of the suspected controlled substance, while the passenger was released without charges, Jones noted in arrest reports.
Belz remained in the county jail Friday afternoon on the controlled substance charge. His bond was set at $10,000, according to jail reports.

Two men stopped by Cumby police for suspicious activity after 3 a.m. Saturday were jailed after Cumby police found suspected methamphetamine and a marijuana cigarette in their vehicle. Cumby Police Sgt. Ray Embro was conducting building security checks in the area of the north Interstate 30 service road and Odom Street, an area where burglary attempts had been made at neighboring businesses, when he noticed a Chevrolet Trailblazer drive into the I-30 Fast Stop and park in front of the building. The business was closed so he made a block and returned. The vehicle was exiting onto the north service road so he stopped it for suspicion of criminal activity. On contact, the driver was identified as Wesley Robert Rose, 36, of Talco and the passenger as Billy Clay Kirby, 49, of Cumby. Kirby claimed to be an employee of the as station, and said they stopped to grab some ice from the ice machine. They did have a bag of ice in the rear floorboard. Embro, in arrest reports, during questioning, both were notably nervous and the reasons they gave for their travels did not make sense to him, so he suspected the pair engaged in criminal activity and had Rose step out of the car for further investigation. Rose reportedly became more nervous during questioning and agreed to let Embro search the vehicle. Embro had Kirby step out. Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputy Tanner Steward arrived on scene to serve a s cover unit with Embro. A baggy with a white crystal-like substance the officers believed to be methamphetamine and a red straw were allegedly found in a white pill bottle in a small bag in the rear floorboard. A marijuana cigarette was found in a child’s toy in rear of the vehicle. Rose allegedly told Embro that Kirby ate illegal contraband believed to be methamphetamine as they were being pulled over and threw illegal contraband out the front passenger window. While talking to Kirby, Embro alleged in arrest reports, the officer observed a large piece of white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine on Kirby’s shirt. Consequently, both Rose and Kirby were arrested for possession of less than gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. Kirby was also charged with Tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, according to arrest reports.
Both men remained in Hopkins County jail at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15.
A 35-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested for driving with two children in the car Saturday night. Sulphur Springs Police Lt. Eddie Moon and Officer Derick Williams stopped a Chevrolet 1500 at 9:48 p.m. June 15 after observing it being driven unsafely while the driver made a lane change on Davis Street at Hinnant Street. Upon contact with the driver, identified in reports as Matthew William West, the officers alleged they could smell alcohol emitting from the vehicle. West was asked to perform standard field sobriety tests; he failed all tests given, the SSPD officers alleged in arrest reports. He was taken into custody and transported to jail. His wife and two children, ages 7 and 9, were also reported to be in the pickup, which was released to someone other than the wife, according to arrest reports. At the jail, West agreed to a breath test. He performed 0.120 and 0.117, both well over the legal 0.08 limit for breath tests, resulting in his arrest for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under 15 years of age, according to arrest reports. He remained in Hopkins County jail Monday morning, June 17. His bond was set at $5,000 on the felony DWI charge, according to jail reports.
A routine traffic stop on Interstate 30 in Cumby early Sunday morning resulted in the arrest of two Arkansas residents. They each received one controlled substance charge.
Cumby Police Sgt. Ray Embro reported seeing a white Toyota Camry at 1:28 a.m. June 16 without a license plate light. The car passed him on Interstate 30 west at mile marker 109. Embro reported catching up and stopping the car at mile marker 108. On contact, the driver was identified as 28-year-old Joshua Devin Depriest of Russellville, Arkansas and the passenger as 23-year-old Alexis Danielle Carlson of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Embro alleged both Depriest and Carlson “appeared to be nervous and not being truthful with their answers to my questions.”
Carlson admitted to Embro there was a marijuana pipe in the the car. When asked to exit to car, Depriest allegedly admitted there was a methamphetamine pipe and possibly meth in the console. He admitted to to using methamphetamine earlier in the evening. Carlson was then also asked to step out of the car, Embro alleged in arrest reports.
A clear, glass pipe containing a white, crystal-like substance believed suspected to be methamphetamine; a plastic bag containing a white, crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, a marijuana pipe and two pills vials containing unidentified pills were allegedly found in the car during a probable cause search conducted by Embro, according to arrest reports.
Consequently, both Carlson and Depriest were placed into custody. Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Lester arrived on scene to transport a small brown dog that was in the car to Sulphur Springs Animal Shelter. The car was towed from the location.
Carlson and Depriest were transported to the Hopkins County Law Enforcement Center. They were booked into the county jail about 3:30 p.m. Sunday for possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. Both remained in Hopkins County jail Monday afternoon; their bond was set at $10,000 each on the controlled substance charge, according to jail reports.
Sulphur Springs Police Department responded just after midnight Sunday night to a report of a person who did not have clothing on climbing the seats of his vehicle.
Officers contacted a 41-year-old Sulphur Springs man, who they noted in arrest reports was exhibiting signs and indicators of intoxication on a stimulant drug. He was sweating profusely despite the fact that the temperature was only 66 degrees outside, the officers alleged in arrest reports.
Believing the man to be a danger to himself and others, the man was taken into custody for public intoxication, officers alleged in arrest reports.
One man was reportedly transported to the hospital to be checked out following a truck and train collision at the County Road 4719 railroad crossing Tuesday morning.
Hopkins County sheriff’s deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Cumby police, Hopkins County and Cumby firefighters were dispatched around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to what was reported as a truck and train crash just north of the north Interstate 30 service road at the County Road 4719 railroad crossing.
The back end of a black extended cab pickup truck sustained the heaviest damage from the collision with the train, which sent the truck into the grassing area just north of the railroad tracks, with one of its tires blown off into the grass in front of it.
The male occupant was reported to have sustained lacerations but had no apparent life-threatening injuries. He was reportedly alert and talking with emergency responders at the crash site before being transported to a local hospital to be checked out.
DPS troopers are in charge of the crash investigation.
A disturbance complaint on North Jackson Street resulted in the male resident being arrested for assault of a woman, according to arrest reports.
Sulphur Springs police officers were dispatched at 6:40 p.m. June 17 to a disturbance in which a male was alleged to be actively hitting a female on North Jackson Street. Upon arrival, officers talked to the 35-year-old male resident as well as others at the location.
The Sulphur Springs man was reported to have struck a female with his head. The woman had a swollen lip police noted, in arrest reports, to be consistent with the alleged assault. Both the man and complainant told officers the altercation had been ongoing for a while before police were contacted, officers alleged in reports.
The 35-year-old Sulphur Springs man arrested on a family violence assault causing bodily injury charge, to prevent further violence from occurring in the, police noted in arrest reports.
He remained in Hopkins County jail at noon Tuesday. His bond was set at $2,500 on the Class A misdemeanor assault charge, according to jail reports.
Hubbard, Delena, 34 years of age, of Scroggins, was arrested on 6/15/2019 for possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputy Alvin Jordan was dispatched to the adult probation office, where he took 43-year-old John Phillip Smith Jr. of Yantis into custody on a felony warrant for violation of probation, which he was on for possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, according to arrest reports.
Smith was transported to the county jail, where he remained at noon Thursday, June 20, according to jail reports.
Laurie A. Jordan
Sulphur Springs Police Sgt. Brandon Mayes took Laurie Ann Jordan, 49, of Sulphur Springs into custody at 3:46 p.m. Wednesday for surety off bond on a possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.
Mayes reported stopping a maroon Chevrolet van; Jordan was a passenger in the vehicle. A records check showed the outstanding charge, according to arrest reports.
Jordan remained in the county jail at noon June 20. Her bond was set at $5,000 on the charge, according to jail reports.
In an unrelated instance, Sulphur Springs police took a 38-year-old Sulphur Springs man into custody just before 1 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for not paying a possession of drug paraphernalia fine, police reports noted.
Police reported seeing the man walking with his back to traffic in the 200 block of Calvert Street and contacted him. A records check showed the man to be wanted. He was taken into custody and jailed; fees owed on the charge totaled $478.50, according to arrest reports. The man was released from jail June 20, according to jail reports.
Emergency responders worked together Friday morning to practice, assess and hone their emergency skills in the field during drill simulating a mock disaster.
Hosted in the Gerald Prim/Hopkins County Civic Center Pavilion parking lot and within Sulphur Springs ISD Athletic Complex, officials reacted as if dispatched to areas in which a tornado had occurred. Multiple people sustained varied levels of injuries, from the walking wounded with minor injuries to critical and even deceased victims of the mock tornado.
Emergency response personnel, assessed patient conditions, “tagged” them for triage treatment based on injury level. City and County law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel responded. Local justices of the peace, at least one game warden, school police also participated in the response. Civic Center staff, Civil Air Patrol and hospital representatives also were cited in a public announcement to be involved in the exercise.
One scenario, in the Prim/Civic Center parking lot, involved multiple patients, including at least one casualty. At least one patient was determined to be deceased upon officials’ arrival. At least one woman was reported to have sustained only minor injuries, and a pregnant woman was reported to be hemorrhaging. Firefighters, law enforcement and EMS personnel worked together to assess, treat and assist the identified victims, located within an area of debris, which included many treat limbs. Some were under the debris.
The hospital’s am-bus was utilized to house and move multiple patients from the scene at the same time.
Before the units could clear that location, they were told approximately 1 dozen other victims were identified at another location. Units moved to the SSISD Athletic Complex, where they found a similar situation.
At each site at least one state and or regional official timed and evaluated the officials response and will make recommendations for any areas of improvement they were able to identify.
The officials participated until noon, and will receive the recommendations as well as any other areas they identify in which adjustments can be made to more efficiently improve patient care and services in emergency situations.
A Fort Worth woman was arrested in Hopkins County late Thursday night on a Haltom City robbery charge, according to police reports.
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Cleve Williams reported stopped a Chrysler Sebring on Interstate 30 east at mile marker 130 for a traffic violation.
A records check using the passenger’s information showed 40-year-old Lesley Shavonne Allen of Fort Worth to be wanted by Haltom City Police. Consequently, Williams took Allen into custody on the second-degree felony robbery warrant, according to arrest reports.
Allen remained in the county jail at noon June 21. Her bond was set at $25,000 on the charge, according to jail reports.
A 56-year-old Irving man reportedly involved in a crash was arrested Thursday afternoon for felony driving while intoxicated.
Sulphur Springs police responded to a reported crash on Interstate 30 west at mile marker 127 at 3:13 p.m. Thursday. SSPD Officer Adrian Pruitt contacted 56-year-old Eric Stephen Gambrell of Irving upon arrival, the officer noted in arrest reports.
Pruitt alleged Gambrell was unsteady on his feet, often stumbling and holding onto things to keep him from falling, had glassy, red bloodshot eyes and an alcohol odor was smelled on him. The Irving man admitted to drinking but refused to perform standard field sobriety tests, Pruitt alleged in arrest reports.
Gambrell was taken to jail, where he reportedly agreed to a blood test. The blood sample was taken at the hospital at 4 p.m. June 20. He was returned to jail, where he was booked for DWI, marking at least the third time he’s been charged with the offense, according to arrest reports.
The Irving man remained in the county jail Friday afternoon, June 21. Bond was set at $10,000 on the felony DWI charge, according to jail reports.
A 37-year-old Sulphur Springs man is accused of assaulting his girlfriend at their residence by impeding her breathing, according to police reports.
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Chad Norris was dispatched to 600 block of South League Street, where an assault had been reported. Upon arrival, Norris contacted the alleged victim, a 32-year-old female resident, according to arrest reports.
While investigating, Norris was told the woman’s boyfriend, who also lives at the residence, had assaulted her by impeding her breathing, specifically by placing his hands around her neck and applying continuous force for approximately 15 seconds, the officer alleged in arrest reports. The woman reportedly alleged she could not breath during those 15 seconds and was afraid she would die.
The boyfriend, identified in arrest reports as 37-year-old Gerardo Martinez, was also accused of striking the woman in the face, scratching her nose. Norris reported the woman did indeed have a scratch on her nose.
Consequently, Martinez was arrested on the third-degree felony assault of a family or household member that impeded circulation or breathing charge, according to arrest reports.
He remained in the county jail late Saturday morning; his bond was set at $30,000 on the charge, according to jail reports.
A 56-year-old Sulphur Springs man reportedly sustained a wound from a kitchen knife during a dispute over a window air conditioning unit Sunday night.
Police were dispatched to a report of a stabbing on North Jackson Street at 8:58 p.m. The man and a woman were awaiting authorities in a vehicle in the driveway.
The man had a puncture wound estimated by officers to be approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length on the back of one shoulder, reportedly sustained from a steak knife, according to police reports.
The alleged suspect, police were told, was no longer at the residence. The suspect was not found during a search. The suspect and woman with the injured man were thought, by the officer, to be siblings, he noted in reports.
The 56-year-old man was allegedly injured when stepping between the arguing woman and suspect, a 61-year-old man.
An aggravated assault, with a deadly weapon offense report was made. No arrest was noted in reports to have been made in connection with the case as of Monday morning.
A vehicle chase by Hunt County authorities ended with a wrecked vehicle, manhunt and arrest in Hopkins County early Sunday morning, according to reports.
Hopkins County authorities were notified by Hunt County authorities that a pursuit that started around mile marker 98 on Interstate 30 was entering Hopkins County around 12:40 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle reportedly wrecked between the 115 and 116 mile markers on I-30 east and at least one person ran from authorities.
A manhunt was launched with sheriff’s deputies and Cumby police reportedly assisting state troopers. A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter was reportedly launched to help with the search. One person was reportedly taken into custody at 1:55 a.m. and transported by DPS officials to Hunt County jail. No additional details about the chase were available Monday morning.
