Criminal mischief resulting in damages at three local businesses, all located just off Interstate 30, was reported over the weekend
An employee at Mattress Heaven/Kennedy Commercial reported finding one of the front windows had been shattered some time after the business closed at 7 p.m.
A tempered glass store front window in the same shopping center also reported just after 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, to be damaged; a T-Mobile employee told police there were two impact sites with a small hole and a blow out in the glass, suspected to be from a BB or pellet gun at the West Shannon Road business. T-Mobile closed at 8:30 p.m. the night before, the store employees told police.
Just before 7 a.m. Sunday, an employee at Wendy’s reported one of the front windows of the East Industrial Drive business appeared to be shot with a BB gun. That business closed at 12 a.m. June 23.
A criminal mischief report was made for each business.
Sulphur Springs Police are investigating a robbery that occurred around 6 a.m. Monday at gas station in the 400 block of West Industrial Drive.
A store clerk was reportedly opening up for the day when a male with a ski mask covering his face entered the store. The man allegedly sprayed mace into the clerk’s face, spoke to her and left with money, according to SSPD Sgt. Brandon Mayes.
The store clerk was treated by Hopkins County EMS personnel for the spray, but reported to otherwise have sustained no physical harm, Mayes reported.
The suspect reportedly has dreadlocks, is estimated to be about 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, and to weigh about 180 pounds. No additional details were available Tuesday morning, according to police.

Sulphur Springs Police are asking for help with several criminal mischief cases reported over the weekend in town.
Representatives at several businesses between June 22 and June 24 reported windows shot out with a BB gun, at least three of which were along Interstate 30 near the South Broadway Street bridge, according to police reports.

Local authorities made a number of warrant arrests on Tuesday, including at least three people sought on outstanding felony charges.
Jason Craig Williams
Special Crimes Unit Lt. Mark Estes and Sgt. Joe Scott arrested Jason Craig Williams, 32, of Sulphur Springs at his Houston Street residence at 1:45 p.m. June 25 on a US Marshals indictment for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a Schedule II substance, according to arrest reports.
Williams was released to the US Marshals Service Wednesday morning, June 26, according to jail reports.
Carolyn Jean Noble
Carolyn Jean Noble, 51, of Sulphur Springs was located at her Hinnant Street residence at 4:48 p.m. June 25 and taken into custody by Sulphur Springs Police Officer Adrian Pruitt on a warrant for violation of probation, which she was on for manufacture or delivery of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, according to arrest reports.
According to jail reports, Noble was also served with a cruelty to non-livestock animals warrant. She remained in the county jail Wednesday morning, June 26. She was held on the probation charge; bond on the animal cruelty charge was set at $2,000, according to jail reports.
Shawnda Bellamy
Deputy Richard Brantley picked up Shawnda Jean Bellamy, 37, of Clarksville at 11:18 a.m. from Titus County jail, where she was being held on a Hopkins County warrant, the deputy noted in arrest reports.
She was transported and booked into the Hopkins County jail for bond forfeiture on a possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance charge, according to arrest and jail reports.
Bellamy remained in Hopkins County jail Wednesday morning. Her bond was set at $10,000 on the charge, according to jail reports.
A 57-year-old Winnsboro man was arrested on a controlled substance charge after suspected methamphetamine was found in a flashlight in his vehicle.
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Sean Hoffman was dispatched at 6:26 a.m. Wednesday to the 1200 block of North Jackson Street, where the man was reported to have been sitting inside a parked Chevrolet Trailblazer for more than an hour.
Upon arrival, Hoffman reported finding a man in the SUV with his head down and not moving. Hoffman approached and woke the man up. The man, Hoffman alleged in arrest reports, spoke with slurred speech, had bloodshot eyes and was unable to sit still.
He asked the man to step out of the SUV to be patted down for officer safety. When the man complied, Hoffman reported seeing a glass pipe of the kind used to smoke methamphetamine in the seat where the man had been sitting. Thus, Hoffman asked and was granted permission to search the vehicle, the officer noted in arrest reports.
Hoffman alleged finding a bag containing a crystal-like substance he believed to be methamphetamine when he unscrewed the end of a flashlight in the SUV. Hoffman took Kenneth Kevin Kirtley into custody for possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, a third-degree felony offense, according to arrest reports.
Kirtley remained in the county jail Thursday morning. Bond was set at $20,000 on the controlled substance charge, according to jail reports.
Sulphur Springs Police are seeking help in locating a suspect who reportedly robbed a West Industrial Drive Shamrock gas station Monday morning.
The suspect, described as a black male with dreadlocks, reportedly had a mask covering his face when he entered #1 Stop at 5:55 a.m. June 24. The man allegedly sprayed mace into the clerk’s face, spoke to her and left with money, SSPD Sgt. Brandon Mayes said Tuesday.

Police Wednesday afternoon released a photo, taken from store surveillance video at the time of the alleged robbery, on both Sulphur Springs Police Department and Lake Country Crime Stoppers‘ Facebook pages, asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect or information about the suspect’s whereabouts.

A 24-year-old Sulphur Springs man alleged to have followed his ex-girlfriend from a disturbance toward the sheriff’s office ended up going to jail for drunk driving, according to sheriff’s reports.
Sulphur Springs police first became aware of the man after stopping a white pickup about 2:50 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of Rosemont Street for a taillight violation. As he did, the officer reported seeing a white Toyota Corolla that appeared to have been following the truck pull into a nearby parking lot.
The officer asked if the car was following her and she allegedly told the officer the man was her ex-boyfriend. She claimed she was driving to the sheriff’s office in reference to a disturbance involving the man, according to police reports.
The policeman reported the white car pulled in behind him, while he was talking to the woman. The woman was asked but reportedly denied having been assaulted. She reportedly claimed the man had been drinking alcohol, they’d become involved in a verbal altercation and he didn’t want her to leave the residence.
Police reported the man had glassy eyes and an alcohol odor emitted from his breath while talking to the officer. The officer, in arrest reports, noted that he observed what appeared to be vomit on one shoulder and that the man was not wearing pants, only boxer shorts.
The officer had the man step out of his vehicle and conducted standard field sobriety tests. Based on those results and a breath test at the sheriff’s office, the so the man was arrested for DWI, according to arrest reports.
A Sulphur Springs man, 19, was taken into custody at Buford Park Thursday evening after he allegedly held a woman at gunpoint when she attempted to end their relationship. Sulphur Springs police were reportedly dispatched at 7:28 p.m. June 27 to Buford Park, where a female was allegedly being held by a man at gunpoint. Upon arrival at the park, officers reportedly located the female and the suspect, identified in arrest reports as 19-year-old Justin Arley Bryant, near the volleyball courts. Sulphur Springs Police Officer Nick Floyd reportedly talked to the female and SSPD Sgt. Matt Glenn spoke with 19-year-old Bryant. Bryant was alleged to have engaged in a verbal argument with the 19-year-old Sulphur Springs woman about them ending their relationship. During the altercation, he allegedly retrieved a small black gun and pointed it at the female, “telling her that she can’t leave him,” Floyd noted in arrest reports. While shouting at the woman, Bryant allegedly pointed the weapon out an open window at the residence and discharged the firearm. Bryant then allegedly pointed the firearm at the woman’s head and mouth.
The woman reportedly changed the subject, indicating a desire to play volleyball at the park and to get something to eat. Bryant allegedly agreed and put the gun away at the residence, then they proceeded to the park. Another person contacted police about the alleged situation, Floyd wrote in arrest reports. Bryant was placed into handcuffs, and upon being placed into a patrol unit, indicated he wanted to talk with officers about what had occurred, according to the arrest report. Bryant allegedly gave the same account, minus any reference to use of a firearm. He told police they’d engaged in a verbal argument, then went to play volleyball and eat after, Floyd alleged in arrest reports.
When asked about the firearm, Bryant allegedly admitted to owning a pistol. When asked about checking his hands for gun residue, Bryant allegedly told officers he had fired the pistol earlier in the day. Glenn reportedly took the victim back to the Interstate 30 west residence where the disturbance had allegedly occurred. A firearm was located and seized as evidence. Floyd was transported by Floyd to jail, where he was booked for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to arrest reports.
Bryant remained in the county jail on the felony charge Friday morning. His bond was set at $200,000, according to jail reports.
A man found asleep outside St. James Catholic Church was jailed for public intoxication Friday afternoon.
Sulphur Springs police responded at 11:51 a.m. to a report of a suspicious person at the church. When officers arrived, they reported finding the man asleep outside the church.
Officers contacted the 25-year-old Sulphur Springs man, whom they noted appeared to be very disorderly. The man was also alleged to have glassy, red bloodshot eyes, had trouble balancing himself and showed several clues of intoxication on horizontal gaze nystagmus tests, police alleged in arrest rpeorts.
Believing the man to be a danger to himself and others, police reportedly took him into custody at 12:09 p.m. for PI, according to arrest reports.
An aggravated robbery was reported to have occurred after 10 p.m. Saturday in a motel room in the 1500 block of East Shannon Road. No one was injured, but a weapon was reportedly displayed during the robbery, according to police reports.
A 69-year-old man staying at the motel reportedly had money stolen from him in his room. According to Suphur Springs police reports, a man entered the 69-year-old’s motel room through an open door.
When, the motel guest rose off his bed and walked toward a table where the intruder was standing, the intruder allegedly displayed a handgun and demanded money. The 69-year-old reportedly gave him the cash he had and the intruder demanded more. The older man indicated he didn’t have any more money and the man finally left, according to police reports.
The suspect was described as a skinny white male, possibly Hispanic, with stubble, possibly a mustache. The suspect was reported to have been wearing a dark colored shirt with stripes, “like plaid,” and dark colored pants, possibly jeans.
Officers searched the area at the time of the alleged robbery, but did not immediately locate anyone fitting that description. As of Monday morning, no one had been arrested for robbery in connection with the case, according to police.
The Hopkins County Grand Jury during the June 28 session signed 58 indictments. At least 40 people were named in the charges.
Offenses ranged from aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault of a family or household member that impeded breathing or circulation an d hindering apprehension or prosecution of a known felon to driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age in the vehicle, engaging in organized criminal activity, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle to tampering with evidence, unauthorized use of vehicles and controlled substance charges.
In some cases more than one individual was accused of participating in an offense, and at least six people were named in more than one indictment.
Laura Ruth Alsobrook; no photo available for Aaron Michael Krahn
Laura Ruth Alsobrook and Aaron Michael Krahn were indicted during the June session on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. Alsobrook was arrested Nov. 30 after she allegedly confessed to driving a vehicle when it dragged and ran over 20-year-old Michael Calderon, who a police officer reportedly found lying face down in the 300 block of Helm Lane, shortly after 9 p.m. Nov. 29. Krahn is alleged by officials to have been in the vehicle with Alsobrook at the time.
Calderon was reported by police to be unresponsive, with blood coming from his mouth and nose when an officer found him, Sulphur Springs police alleged in reports following Alsobrook’s arrest. Calderon was transported from the crash site to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital Sulphur Springs, then to an area trauma center in critical condition, according to police investigators.
Police officers, during the course of their investigation, received information that Calderon was “attempting to purchase narcotics from a male” when he was struck by the vehicle, police alleged in arrest reports.
James Wesley Whitworth
James Wesley Whitworth of Sulphur Springs was indicted for assault of a family or household member that impeded breathing or circulation. Whitworth, 39, was arrested May 10 for allegedly choking his girlfriend during an altercation. Police reported injuries on the girlfriend supported the description given to police regarding the alleged Houston Street assault. Whitworth remained in the county jail Monday on the charge, according to jail reports.
Andrew Ray Williams and Stefan Anderson Neal
Andrew Ray Williams of Bonham and Stefan Anderson Neal of Greenville were indicted for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle. The pair was arrested April 30 for allegedly leaving a minor two-vehicle crash on State Highway 19 south near FM 1567 west without exchanging information with the other motorist, then and leading authorities on a high speed chase on FM 2297 from Birch Creek to the Wildcat Way-League Street intersection, where their vehicle crashed into another vehicle, then a tree on League Street, according to arrest reports. The pair reportedly then fled on foot. The driver was caught trying to jump a fence and the other man was caught after crossing a pasture and I-30, officers alleged in arrest reports. Neal, 26 at the time of his arrest, was released from the county jail on bond on May 1. Williams, 19 at the time of his arrest, remained in jail Monday, according to jail reports.
Manuel Arrendondo-Molina and Christina Eleen Flynn
Manuel Arrendondo-Molina and Christina Eleen Flynn, both of Greenville, were each indicted for unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair. The pair was reportedly stopped on Interstate 30 early April 21 for an equipment violation. Before they stopped the deputy reported seeing an object thrown out. Officers allegedly found in the area a make-up style bag containing a hypodermic needle with a substance believed to be methamphetamine that weighed 2.54 grams in it, a scale, small bags, and a clear bag containing a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine and weighed 11.01 grams. A records check showed the truck had been reported to Greenville Police Department as stolen, officers alleged in arrest reports. Arrendonodo-Molina, 22 at the time of his arrest, was released from jail on bond April 28; Flynn, 23, at the time of her arrest, remained in the county jail Monday, according to jail reports.
Jumierquai Doverieay Davison, Clarence Ofield III and Kelley Waterhouse
Jumierquai Doverieay Davison, Clarence Ofield III and Kelley Waterhouse, all of Sulphur Springs, were indicted for engaging in organized criminal activity. The three were arrested in connection with a rash of vehicle burglaries and a car theft case reported April 12-13. Davison, 17, was arrested April 17 and released from jail April 18. Ofield, 17, and Waterhouse, 18, were arrested April 16. Ofield was released from jail May 30; Waterhouse remained in the county jail Monday, according to jail reports. A 15-year-old reportedly connected to the investigation was also taken into custody as a runaway, police investigators said following the arrests.
Francisco A. Guillen-Campos
Mary Wooten
Francisco A. Guillen-Campos and Mary Wooten, both of Arkansas, were indicted for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair and possession of 400 grams or more of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. Guillen-Campos was also indicted for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle. The pair was accused of throwing more than 13 pounds of suspected methamphetamine out a car window, while trying to evade police on Interstate 30 and Shannon Road. Officers recovered what was reported to be at least three 1-gallon Ziplock bags and two other baggies with a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, police reports noted. Wooten and Guillen-Campos, 28 and 21 when arrested April 12, remained in the county jail July 1, 2019, according to jail reports.
Dustin James Spieldenner
Dustin James Spieldenner, 26, of Dekalb was indicted on two possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance charges. He was allegedly found passed out in a running GMC Envoy parked in the middle of U.S. Highway 67 west at FM 2653 south April 6. The man did not awaken for deputies, who alleged they could see a syringe next to him and noted what appeared to be fresh track marks from a syringe injection. When the man still did not respond, the deputies reported, they notified EMS and broke a window on the Envoy to gain access to the man. He was breathing and finally awakened, but had trouble staying awake. A search of the vehicle yielded a black tar substance believed to be heroin and a white substance they believed to be cocaine, deputies alleged in arrest reports. Spieldenner was reportedly treated at the hospital for a possible overdose then transported to jail, according to arrest reports. He remained in the county jail Friday.
Scotty Ray Price
Scotty Ray Price was indicted for assault of a family or household member by impeding circulation or breathing. He was accused of assaulting his girlfriend by punching her in the face and body numerous times, and placing her in a choke hold, which impeded her breathing, police wrote in arrest reports. He allegedly admitted to putting the woman in choke hold. The woman had numerous injuries, police alleged at the time of his arrest. The 36-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested May 26 and released from jail May 28, according to jail reports.
Denzel Dredon Jackson
Denzel Dredon Jackson, 29, of Plano was indicted June 28 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to jail reports, Jackson was taken into custody Friday, June 27, on an aggravated assault warrant and remained in the county jail July 1, according to jail reports.
Matthew William West
Matthew William West, 35, of Sulphur Springs was indicted for driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age in the vehicle at the time. His wife and two children, ages 7 and 9, were with him in the truck with him when he was stopped June 15 for failure to signal a lane change. Officers alleged alcohol could be smelled on him; he failed all standard field sobriety tests administered and performed 0.120 and 0.117, both well over the legal 0.08 limit for breath tests, police alleged at the time of his arrest. He was released from jail two days later on bond, according to jail reports.
Filadelfo Ramirez-Hernandez
Filadelfo Ramirez-Hernandez was indicted in June for aggravated assault of a date, family or household member with a weapon. He was arrested May 17 on a warrant for the charge and remained in the county jail Monday, July 1, 2019.
Garrett Mahew Bursby
Garrett Mahew Bursby, 23, of Brashear was indicted for failure to comply with sex offender’s duty to register. A sheriff’s investigator said authorities were first alerted to Garrett Mahew Bursby, after he was reportedly seen April 26 during regular school hours at a county school, where he was thought not to have checked in with school officials. On further investigation, Bursby was found not to have complied with terms for him to register with authorities as a sex offender as required, which resulted in a warrant being issued for his arrest, the investigator reported at the time of Bursby’s arrest. Bursby has remained in local custody since his arrest May 22, according to jail reports.
Patrick Deshaun Holman
Patrick Deshaun Holman, 23, of Frisco was indicted for theft of a firearm. He was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle stopped by police on Interstate 30 for a traffic violation late May 29. A records check showed a gun found in the car had been reported stolen, police alleged in arrest reports. He was released from jail later May 30 on bond, according to jail reports.
Timothy Alan Goss
Timothy Alan Goss, 48, of Sulphur Springs was indicted for theft of property valued at less than 2,500, but because he has two previous convictions, the charge was enhanced to a felony offense. Sheriff’s deputies responded May 26 on County Road 1100 to a tip that a stolen chainsaw could be located there. Goss was in a pickup there. He reportedly told deputies a chainsaw being used by another man belonged to the victim. He agreed to let the deputies search a truck. They allegedly found 12.97 grams of suspected methamphetamine in it, resulting in his arrest for possessing the controlled substance and theft of property valued at less than $2,500 with two or more prior convictions, according to arrest reports. He remained in the county jail July 1, according to jail reports.
Christopher Don Williams
Christopher Don Williams was indicted for manufacture or delivery of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, manufacture or delivery of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance and possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. He was arrested April 24 and remained in custody Monday, according to jail reports.
Kimberly Dawn Tubb, Kyla Renee Wright-Finklea, Alice Rachelle Yarbrough and Chrisandra Watson Yarbrough were all indicted for hindering apprehension or prosecution of a known felon.
Mazeke Adrian Carruth was indicted for possession of 5 pound or more but less than 50 pounds of marijuana.
The remainder of the indictments were for controlled substance charges. Among those accused in the June 28 Grand Jury session of controlled substance offenses were:
Benjamin James Cowing, Thea Colynn Patterson, Jazzmin Shonta Hall, Daniel Joseph Nicholson, Donald James Farris and Ashley Renea Young — possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance;
Nathan Aaron Potter — possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance in a drug-free zone;
Richard Leon Howell and Mark Alan Tutton — possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance;
Jessica Nicole Allen and Colton Heath Golightly — possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance in a drug-free zone;
Olgegario Cantu Arizmendez — possession of 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance; and
Jose Luis Rodriguez — possession of 4 grams or more but less than 400 grams of a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance.
At least six people were arrested and jailed in Hopkins County Tuesday on outstanding warrants, including one person wanted by the US Marshals Service. One was found at a local motel, one at the Walmart in Commerce and one taken into custody at the courthouse. Overall, five were taken into custody by sheriff’s officers and one by city police.

Sulphur Springs Police Officer Sean Hoffman was contacted and asked by a U.S. Marshals Service officer around 5:25 p.m. Tuesday to transport 37-year-old Victor Von Herrmann of Sulphur Springs to the county jail. The man had reportedly been located at his Lee Street residence. After the Sacramento warrant for Herrmann’s arrest for lewd or lascivious act with a child under age 14 was confirmed, he was taken into custody on the charge, Hoffman alleged in arrest reports. Bond was set at $600,000 on the charge, according to jail reports.
Keyra Leanne Dunham
Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Baumann arrested Keyra Leanne Dunham, 28, of Amarillo at 4:08 p.m. at the Walmart in Commerce on a Hopkins County warrant. The deputy reported receiving information the wanted woman was inside the store and contacted police, who detained her for Baumann, until he could arrive at the Commerce store and taken her into custody to jail for violation of probation, which she was on for possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, according to arrest reports. Bond was set at $50,000 on the charge, according to arrest reports.
Carlton Douglas Fite
Carlton Douglas Fite, 42, of Yantis was arrested at 10:32 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at his State Highway 154 south residence by Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputies Zack Horne and Aaron Chaney, and Sgt. Scott Davis for surety off bond on a theft of property valued at less than $2,500 but with two or more previous convictions, which enhanced the charges to a felony offense. The deputies went to Fite’s residence to try to serve the warrant. They attempted to contact the man, but had no success. As they were leaving, Fite attempted to pull into the driveway. He was detained and taken into custody on the charge, according to arrest reports. Bond was set at $10,000 on the charge, according to jail reports.

Tacka Dashell Gotcher, 32, of Sulphur Springs was taken into custody at 3 p.m. July 2 by a corrections officer at Hopkins County Courthouse on an order revoking bond on a possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance,

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputy Lance Burdick and Investigator Wade Sheets took Craig Tatom Nichols, 53, of Celeste into custody at 10:16 a.m. Tuesday at Ferrari Inn on a Hunt County theft of property valued at $30,000 or more but less than $150,000 charge. Sheets advised the deputies about the wanted man. The officers went to the motel, located the man who’d allegedly booked the room under a female’s name, and took him into custody on the Hunt County charge, according to arrest reports. Bond was set at $50,000 on the charge, according to jail reports.

HCSO Deputy Steve Shing traveled to Plain State Jail in Dayton, Texas, where he took 37-year-old Toni Marie Sherrin of Gun Barrel City into custody at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 2. Shing transported Sherrin, who was noted in jail reports to also be known as Toni Smith, to Hopkins County jail, where she was held on warrants for unauthorized use of a vehicle and for bail jumping and failure to appear. Bond was set at $20,000 on the vehicle charge and $25,000 and on the other, according to jail reports.
A 33-year-old Bradford, Arkansas man was arrested July 4 for allegedly trying to choke the mother of his children, with the kids in the vehicle with them.
Sulphur Springs police were dispatched to the 1600 block of West Shannon Road, where an assault was reported to have occurred. Upon arrival at 7 Star, Sgt. Brandon Mayes reported talking to both the alleged victim and the suspect, identified in arrest reports as Robert Michael Jamen.
The woman was alleged to have been involved in a physical altercation with Jamen in a Dodge Ram pickup. During the altercation, the man allegedly wrapped both hands around the woman’s throat, cutting off her airway. Three children belonging to both the alleged victim and suspect reported seeing the same thing occur, while they screamed for his to stop, Mayes alleged in arrest reports.
The woman was reported to have a few visible marks around her neck and collarbone area to support the claim. Consequently, Jamen was arrested at 11:35 a.m. July 4 for assault of a family or household member that impeded breathing or circulation, according to arrest reports.
Jamen was released from Hopkins County Law Enforcement Center Friday, July 5. Bond was set at $10,000 on the third-degree felony charge, according to jail reports.
Sulphur Springs Police took a 33-year-old Sulphur Springs man found passed out in the drive-through lane at a South Broadway Street Mexican food business just after 11 p.m. July 3 .
Sulphur Springs police reported finding the man “asleep” in the driver’s seat with a cold, open container of Budweiser in console of a 2014 Dodge Challenger at Taco Bueno.
He was reportedly awakened and asked to exit the car. He allegedly failed horizontal gaze nystagmus tests and was noted to emit an alcohol odor on his breath, was unsteady on his feet, had bloodshot eyes and spoke with slurred speech.
Believing the man to be a danger to himself and others, police took him into custody and to jail for public intoxication, according to arrest reports. The man was released from jail on the misdemeanor charge Thursday, according to jail reports.
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Justin Findley arrested Jair Ugalde Sanchez, 40, of Sulphur Springs Wednesday evening for driving while license invalid and possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.
Findley reported stopping a GMC Sonoma at 8:09 p.m. July 3 for failure to signal a turn 100 feet prior to turning on College Street at Jackson Street. The driver, identified in arrest reports as Sanchez, was taken into custody after it was found he was driving without a valid license.
During an inventory of the vehicle, a glass pipe of the type commonly used to smoke methamphetamine and a plastic bag with less than 1 gram of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine were allegedly found. Consequently, Sanchez was also charged with controlled substance possession, according to arrest reports.
Sanchez was released from jail July 4 on $5,000 bond on the controlled substance charge; the fee for the driver’s license charge was set at $266, according to jail reports.
A 30-year-old Wolfe City man was arrested at 7:13 p.m. July 3 on State Highway 11 west for possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.
Hopkins County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Davis first became aware of the man because he was driving a Chevrolet Malibu without a front license plate on State Highway 11 west Wednesday evening. As the deputy began following the car, he alleged, it quickly turned into a residential driveway.
The deputy contacted the driver and noted he could immediately smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and observed a green, leaf-like substance he believed to be marijuana in plain view. Davis reportedly obtained consent to search the car. Suspected marijuana cigarettes were found in the console along with marijuana, several baggies of the kind typically used for packaging of illegal narcotics in both the console and driver’s side floorboard, and a white torn paper bag with a crystal-like substance he believed to be methamphetamine in an open compartment on top of the dash, Davis alleged in arrest reports.
The man in the car, identified in arrest reports as Zaqurious Lamont Armstrong of Wolfe City, was arrested for possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. Closer inspection revealed the license plate on the car also belonged to another vehicle, according to arrest reports.
Armstrong was released from the county jail July 4 on $5,000 bond on the controlled substance charge, according to jail reports.
License plate violations also resulted in two other traffic stops and two arrests for marijuana possession, according to arrest reports.
A Garland man, 58, was stopped at 2:16 p.m. July 3 by state troopers on Interstate 30 at mile marker 129 for a license plate violation on a Jeep Grand Cherokee and ended up in jail for possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. On contact, the highway patrol trooper reported smelling a marijuana odor in the vehicle. A probable cause search yielded marijuana in a glass jar in a backpack, resulting in his arrest Wednesday afternoon, according to arrest reports.
He remained in the county jail Friday. Bond was set at $1,000 on the misdemeanor marijuana charge, according to jail reports.
At about 12:15 a.m. July 4, Sulphur Springs police stopped a Toyota Rav 4 on Oak Avenue for an unreadable license plate and because the vehicle’s third brake light was not working, and arrested the passenger for possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana.
Police reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle as they contacted the occupants. Officers asked the man to step out of the vehicle. Police alleged they could see a clear bag with what appeared to marijuana inside of it in the 30-year-old Cooper man’s pocket. The man was arrested on a misdemeanor marijuana charge; the driver was released, according to police reports.
He was released from jail July 4 on $1,000 bond on the charge, according to jail reports.
A disturbance complaint at a Sulphur Springs motel resulted in location of Gilmer man wanted on a Wood County warrant early Saturday morning.
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Chad Norris reported contacting a man after 1 a.m. July 6 at Royal Inn about a disturbance complaint. The man was not cooperative when asked to hive his identifying information, which was obtained from a female present, Norris alleged in arrest reports.
A records check using that information showed 28-year-old Joe Dale Cohorst of Gilmer to be wanted by Wood County authorities for violation of probation, which he was on for possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. The man was reported to initially failed to put his hands behind his back as instructed, but did eventually comply, and was arrested on the warrant at 1:30 a.m, Norris noted in arrest reports.
A 27-year-old Sulphur Springs man was jailed Friday by police on a felony warrants.
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Sean Hoffman and Tyler Francis were made aware Trondamion Andrzhel Cleveland was wanted for parole violation. The SSPD officers went to Cleveland’s Helm Lane residence and took the 27-year-old man to jail on the violation of parole warrant, according to arrest reports.
He remained in the county jail on the charge Saturday morning, July 6, according to jail reports.
Two men were jailed over the weekend on felony warrants. A 55-year-old Sulphur Springs man was taken into custody at the hospital and the other turned himself in, according to arrest reports.

Sulphur Springs Police Officer Chad Norris reportedly came into contact with Eddie Charles Evans, 55, of Sulphur Springs at 12:08 a.m. Monday, July 8, at the CHRISTUS Mother Francis Hospital emergency room. Aware the man was wanted, the officer confirmed the outstanding parole warrant and placed him into handcuffs, according to arrest reports. He was booked into the county jail for violation of parole, according to jail reports.
